Atlas Copco’s LPD-LD hydraulic post driver gives contractors a lightweight and easy-to-use tool for installing fences, tent stakes and ground rods. The unit weighs just 39 lbs. (17.7 kg) and can be used to drive 3/8- to 2-1/2-in. (.95 to 6.3 cm) diameter rods.

The LPD-LD works well with almost any hydraulic outlet, including a power pack or skid steer that provides a hydraulic flow of 5 gal. per minute (19 Lpm). Contractors can operate the unit with the built-in trigger to easily deliver 2,300 blows per minute (bpm) for fast installations in nearly any terrain. This high-frequency driving also provides smooth operation and minimizes damage to the top of the rod or post, which can occur with machines that operate with fewer bpm.

The post driver accepts standard 2-in. (5 cm) diameter rods, and it can be used with adaptors or bushing inserts to drive 3/4- to 2-1/2-in. (1.9 to 6.3 cm) rods. The front end of the unit features a built-in anvil and pin for quick and easy installation of adaptors and bushings. Contractors also can install standard 5/8- and 1-in. (1.6 and 2.5 cm) bushing coverings for driving ground rods.

To minimize damage to smaller diameter ground rods, contractors can install an adaptor to provide a surface for the anvil to strike rather than the rod. The adaptor can be replaced with 1/2- to 1-in. rods or 2- to 2-1/2-in. (1.3 to 2.5 or 5 to 6.3 cm) diameter driver heads to install wood stakes, T-posts and round tubes.
