As AJ Larusso puts it, the Mecalac MCR Crawler Skid-Excavator “is light years ahead of anything on the U.S. market today”. President of Massachusetts-based Larusso Heavy Equipment (LHE), Larusso had been watching videos online of the European machine for five years. He was riveted by how this unique and highly versatile piece of equipment had changed the way contractors excavated and moved material in Europe. It demonstrated multi-functionality like he had never seen before and he claims, “this machine had no weaknesses.” Then he saw the MCR at bauma in Germany before he finally got in touch with the right person at Mecalac France in January 2016. Larusso recounts that “everything clicked” with Mecalac principals. Within a month, LHE launched sales of the Mecalac all-terrain high-speed MCR skid excavator in New England.
The MCR is in fact two high-performance machines in one: a skid steer and an excavator, fortified with a telehandler equipped with a unique versatile boom. It goes 2-3 times faster than any other mini-excavator on the market (6.2 mph); it can rotate 360° while carrying 40% of its own weight and it offers a 360° view to its operator. Its boom can lift and load materials to a height up to 16 ft.; it folds to 131 degrees for maximum stability and lifting performance. Its CONNECT quick coupling system allows switching attachments in seconds, and auxiliary hydraulics enable standard hydraulic attachments. Above all, it responds perfectly to the industry trend toward tighter urban spaces with its compact radius and small footprint.
The MCR Crawler Skid-Excavator is in fact the perfect realization of Mecalac's highly innovative process-oriented philosophy (as opposed to other product-oriented manufacturers). By virtue of the extensive range of jobs it can perform, the MCR transforms the way work is performed on the job site. Larusso projects that MCR sales will represent 50% of his equipment business by the end of 2017. His customers in building, public works and landscaping are putting it to work on small excavation projects, septic system installation, site work, driveway and utility work. He believes the 6 and 8 ton models will sell the most. He adds, “Mecalac is bringing very very innovative products to the U.S. market; they will lower the cost of equipment ownership for our customers.”

The 6MCR High-speed Skid-Excavator – 6-ton
The 6MCR is equipped with the Mecalac attachment. The 8MCR High-speed Skid Excavator – 8 ton
The 8MCR is a tracked machine design, combining the features of a compact 7.2/7.6 ton excavator housing the engine and equipment on the upper section, with those of a fast, compact loader on a triangular, tracked chassis. The 8MCR can move at a speed of up to 6.2 mph. This new concept is a fine example of how innovative design can combine comfort, productivity, economy and improved working methods with the protection of the environment. A simple selector switch lets the driver change from compact excavator mode to compact loader mode, and then back again, all using the same commands. The Mecalac CONNECT attachment means that a tool can be changed in just a few seconds, without the need to get down from the cab. The control lever functionality is a major innovation; it allows the operator to switch over to loader mode, thus significantly improving productivity, ease of use and site organization.
