The Walsh Group is celebrating 120 years in construction, dating back to its founding in the late nineteenth century when Matthew Myles Walsh started a small carpentry business in his Chicago home.

Founded in 1898, the Walsh business served as a well-regarded Chicago building contractor. It survived the challenges of the Great Depression, and Walsh Construction Company was incorporated in the State of Illinois in 1949. In response to continued growth, and to facilitate national expansion, Archer Western Contractors, Ltd. was established in 1983 and based in Atlanta, Georgia. Together, Archer Western and Walsh Construction would become subsidiaries of The Walsh Group. In 2009, The Walsh Group would expand beyond the borders of the United States and establish Walsh Canada in Toronto, Ontario.

"The integrity of our firm has always been projected through our family values, love for the business and respect for the people we work with," said Matthew Walsh, co-chairman of The Walsh Group. "This is the foundation of our company, and it will continue to drive the culture and success of The Walsh Group into the next generation."

Today, The Walsh Group has evolved through four generations of family leadership and is a multi-billion-dollar company with more than 8,000 employees across 18 regional offices. The company is no longer solely defined as a contractor, but rather a construction services provider offering design, build, finance, operation and activation services in the building, transportation and water markets.

"Our valued relationships with employees, customers and business partners have allowed this company to be successful. We're grateful for the opportunity to work with them all these years," said co-chairman Dan Walsh.

As part of celebrating 120 years, the company will be sharing historical features and profiles stories with employees, customers and social followers throughout 2018.
