Thompson Tractor Company hosted hundreds of guests and dignitaries at the Grand Opening celebration and official ribbon-cutting ceremony for its all-new Opelika, Ala., Thompson Cat Rental Store on May 24.

After brief speeches from ownership and local dignitaries, the event featured a catered barbeque dinner, facility tours, entertainment, games, prize drawings and equipment displays.

Some of the prize giveaways included a Toro mower, Echo trimmer, Echo blower, Cat generator, one free week rental of a Cat mini-excavator and a Cat CTL and more.

This was the first new facility that Thompson Tractor had built since 2009 and owner Mike Thompson said the timing and the business climate were right to build a new facility in Opelika and provide the area a facility with expanded lines and longer operating hours.

Immediately after the ribbon-cutting, Mayor Gary Fuller and David Scott of Scott Land Company in Opelika, Ala., surprised Mike Thompson with the announcement that a nearby access road would be named Thompson Drive in honor of the Thompson family. Fuller and Scott also presented Thompson with a street sign inscribed with that name.

A host of Thompson Tractor and Thompson Cat Rental Store representatives turned out to lend their help and support for the event along with many Caterpillar representatives and reps from virtually all manufacturers whose machines and tools are sold and rented at this location.
