Topcon Tierra, a world leader in remote asset management telematics solutions, has been awarded the coveted 2009 M2M (Machine to Machine) Value Chain Award in the Construction category.
“Topcon Tierra uses advanced GPS technology and a simple back-office, web-based communications system to reduce cost and increase productivity…. essential elements in today’s competitive construction environment,” according to Mark Bittner, senior vice president and general manager for Topcon’s Telematics Business Unit.
“Topcon Tierra takes information available from any piece of machinery — regardless of age, make or model, analog or digital — and sets up two-way communications, transmitting data about the tracking or operation of the vehicle, plus behavioral aspects of the machines,” Bittner said.
Users of the Tierra system immediately reap the benefits of security, job costing, maintenance management and machine utilization applications, he said.
“Topcon Tierra is a powerful solution on its own but when incorporated with other Topcon advanced technology solutions like 3D-MC2 and SiteLINK, it provides complete integration to the job site allowing users to access a ’window’ into job site operations from anywhere in the world, via the web.”
Peggy Smedley, editorial director of M2M magazine, said, “Those involved in M2M are facing a pivotal time in the industry’s growth. There are now millions of machines communicating with each other. However, there are still millions that do not. It won’t be long until other companies see the value and take advantage of the opportunity that can come from implementing this technology.”
The Value Chain Awards honor the most successful corporate adopters of M2M technology and the team of solution providers that made their success possible. The awards highlight the process of combining multiple technologies such as device-connectivity hardware, radio modules, network service and provision, as well as application software and infrastructure, and show how all of the elements of the M2M Value Chain created a winning solution for the end user.
Bittner said, “Topcon Tierra is honored by being recognized as the best of the best in the M2M industry. Being acknowledged by one’s peers for innovative and differentiating technological achievement is a high honor indeed.”
The award was presented in June at the M2M Connected World 2009 event held in Chicago.
