Tramac Keeps it Quiet With Demolition Attachments

Construction Equipment Guide

The latest generation of the Tramac range of hydraulic silent demolition attachments has been launched, covering carriers from 15.3 to 59.4 metric tons (17 to 66 tons). Complementing the range of Tramac breakers, each demolition attachment is available as a standard MB version — the MB-350, MB-400 and MB-550, with jaws designed for processing concrete and rebar in one operation, reducing it to a size for easy recycling. With quick and easy interchangeable jaws, the MB can be converted into a steel shear or concrete pulverizer, designated by MS and MP respectively. Also available for models MB-400 and MB-550 is an alternative interchangeable jaw to form the MC concrete cracking model.

By the extra-wide opening and specially-designed teeth, the MB Processor results in high production levels for demolition of reinforced concrete including simultaneous cutting of rebar in two perpendicular directions. Costly secondary processing such as pulverizing and rebar separation is not required as this unit will demolish and process material in place to a size that can be immediately transferred to a recycling crusher. The cutting force at mid jaw in the MB-350, MB-400 and MB550 is 99,130 and 247 metric tons (110,145 and 275 tons) respectively. Cutting widths vary from 35.6 to 50.8 centimeters (14 to 20 in.) with jaw openings from 1,574 to 2,692 centimeters (620 to 1,060 in.).

The jaw openings of the MP concrete pulverizer version vary from 69.8 to 119.4 centimeters (27.5 to 47 in.) with crushing widths from 40.6 to 60.9 centimeters (16 to 24 in.). In the steel shear versions, jaw openings run from 45.7 to 79.9 centimeters (18 to 29.5 in.), while the concrete cracking jaws have maximum openings of 101.6 and 127 centimeters (40 and 50 in.).

Stresses are distributed evenly in the jaws so the cutting force is constant at all positions and jaw openings. The cutting areas spread the rebar for a sequential cut with no jamming or twisting of the unit. Two hydraulic cylinders and only one pin for both jaws greatly reduces stresses on the pin and protects the carrier’s boom from twisting. The dynamic balance of the unit is ideal when working on a crane in special applications such as the demolition of a chimney stack.

The fixing plate to the carrier matches that of the Tramac breaker range. Hydraulic hoses and cylinder rods are protected and integrated inside the frame. Maintenance costs are further reduced as cutting surfaces can be rebuilt and there are no other wear parts involved. Periodic rewelding of the cutting areas keeps the jaws sharp for demolition work, ensuring maintenance costs are reduced. Tramac MB Processors have as standard, an indexed mechanical rotation with adjustable brakes which allows the unit to swivel 360 degrees. A hydraulic rotation system is available as an option, which is useful when extended booms are being used to ensure controlled crushing and shearing forces.
