Construction Equipment Guide

The USS Missouri recently purchased the environmentally-friendly Farrow System 450 Max, a cleaning method that allows workers to aggressively strip the heaviest coatings and even remove rust from severely corroded areas in a short amount of time. The “Mighty Mo,” the World War II battleship best known for hosting the formal surrender of Japan in 1945 and now a decommissioned vessel called the Battleship Missouri Memorial, will leave its historic spot in October for the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for repairs.

The Farrow System 450 Max is ideal for areas difficult to access and clean. Utilizing on-site water and compressed air, these machines deliver efficient, chemical-free, environmentally- safe cleaning just like other trailer mounted units, according to the manufacturer.

The MAX series machines are fully caged and can be forked, lowered, or hoisted into almost any job site, including storage tanks. The solid steel crash frame, stainless steel control panel, fully powder coated pot, and corrosion resistant fittings are built to take abuse. This machine, originally built for off shore applications, will withstand the most extreme corrosive conditions to deliver dependable operation in any challenging environment, according to the manufacturer.

The Farrow System is a low pressure system that works by adding heat to the cleaning process. This adds energy, creates free flow, adds control, and increases cleaning speeds. It can quickly remove protective coatings, oxidation, and graffiti from surfaces without damaging them. It also cleans wood, plastics, composites, steel, aluminum, brass, ceramic tile, concrete, asphalt, decorative pavers, stone, brick, and more. The system uses Farrow Green Clean, a natural and chemical-free volcanic crystal.
