How do you move a 30 ft. (9 m) concrete road barrier into position while traffic keeps rushing by? Until now, contractors had to rely on straps, chains and gravity, with the need for workers on the ground to help control the swing and rotation of the material. Recognizing the need for something better, Vacuworx set out to create a smarter way for highway contractors to handle oversized barriers. Hydraulically powered, the new HL B2 barrier Lifter keeps workers out of harm's way while maneuvering concrete barriers up to 30 ft. long.

Bigger Barriers Require Better Solutions

The traditional method of moving concrete road barriers with slings and chains is slow and lacks control. Having tag line operators working close to moving traffic is unsafe. And a dropped barrier — even from just a few inches off the ground — creates a very dangerous situation. The HL B2 offers a faster, safer way to handle oversized barriers up to 23,200 lb. (10,523 kg) and 30 ft. long.

Designed for use with full-sized excavators, the HL B2 lifter connects easily and works with the host's hydraulic system. With 360 degree rotation, HL Series lifters can operate in confined spaces during road, bridge and highway applications. Precision handling capabilities and remote operation from the cab of the host machine makes loading, unloading and installation fast and easy — without the need to have someone guide the barrier on the ground every step of the way.

Lifters are equipped with a hydraulic lock for safety to prevent loss of load if hydraulic pressure is lost. Elastomer grips provide superior performance with full surface contact without damaging materials. Quick-couplers are available for virtually all host machines for the ultimate in attachment versatility and even greater productivity on the job. In addition, environmentally friendly Vacuworx hydraulic lifting systems produce near zero noise and air pollution, providing the ideal solution for construction sites within city limits or with strict emission guidelines.

Also available from Vacuworx, the HL B1 hydraulic lifter is designed to lift concrete road barriers up to 6,000 lb. (2,721 kg) and 12 ft. (3.6 m) long. Depending on the size of barriers commonly utilized in a given area, HL Series lifters are the ideal solution for construction contractors, government authorities, security agencies and military personnel tasked with fast and efficient moves, lifts or installations of concrete road barriers.
