Crowds gathered for an open house at Vermeer North Atlantic's Middletown, Pa., facility on Nov. 12.

Over a lunch catered by Pig Tails Barbeque, industry professionals had the chance to talk with Vermeer employees, check out the company's latest reclaimer and mud pumps, view helicopter footage of the Mariner II pipeline, and explore a special display of tooling and support parts. Vermeer Corporation and Vermeer North Atlantic have partnered to heavily increase pipeline parts inventory to help prevent excessive downtime. With the Steelers-Colts game on in the background, door prizes and a football toss contest added to the excitement of the day.

“This type of an event is unique to us here, because the pipeline guys are working in our territory … we want to be a part of that and be here for them,” said Dan McHugh, general manager of Vermeer North Atlantic.

“We just wanted to invite some of the contractors working in the area, provide a great lunch and put faces to names. This way, everybody can meet and talk about the issues they are seeing in the field and how we can help.”

The highlight of the event was the equipment display, which featured Vermeer's R250C reclaimer and SA400 high pressure pump, both of which are widely used in pipeline work. The R250C, which pairs well with many directional drills, recycles mud at a rate of 250 gallons per minute, allowing for greater efficiency on the job site. The SA400 pump is powered by a Tier IV Final Cat engine, and has an engine-mounted lubrication pump, which keeps material flowing continuously throughout the system.
