Duininck Inc. Midwest Division was contracted to lay a new asphalt lot for trucks to unload grain for Montevideo Co-op at one of its grain drop off, processing and storage facilities Montevideo, Minn.
The project called for laying a 350-ft., 2.5-in. thick asphalt circle that would reduce the amount of dust and mud that was produced by the standard gravel area.
Duininck purchased a new Vögele SUPER 1700-3i, which is a tracked paver in the 8-ft. class. Duininck’s “Willmar Private Crew” worked with the new Vögele SUPER 1700-3i on the Montevideo project
Gary (L) and Jeff Duininck. The project was completed in one day with asphalt being loaded directly into the paver.

The Montevideo Co-op, a grain drop-off, processing and storage facility in Montevideo, Minn., needed to replace its gravel lot with a new asphalt pad for trucks to unload grain. The specs of the project included a 350-ft., 2.5-in. thick asphalt circle that would reduce the amount of dust and mud created by the old lot.

The company to tackle this project was Duininck Inc., a long-time paving contractor in Prinsburg, Minn. Duininck Inc. Midwest Division is made up of diverse construction groups serving the national market in heavy highway, underground utilities, bridge construction and attendant services.

Using the latest in industry standards and technology, Duininck Inc. Midwest Division offers complete and comprehensive solutions for projects of any size. Working with its dealer, Hayden-Murphy, of Bloomington, Minn., the company found just the paver needed for this job.

According to Jeffery Duininck, operations manager, "Duininck had previously purchased two Vögele pavers and wanted to add a third."

"Duininck has been doing business with Hayden-Murphy for as long as anyone here can remember," said Jeremy Torgerson, director of sales of Hayden-Murphy. "From selling and servicing cranes and compactors years ago, to a full line of road building and aggregate equipment now, Hayden-Murphy has had a long-standing relationship with the Duininck organization."

Adding a new machine to a fleet takes careful consideration. For Duininck, the deciding factor came after a trip to the Vögele factory, organized by Hayden-Murphy during bauma 2019, a trade fair for construction machinery held in Germany.

Chris Duininck, president of Duininck Inc. Midwest Division, and Courtland Acosta, equipment manager of Duininick, came away with a better understanding of Vögele equipment and how the machines are built.

The trip validated Duininck's opinion of the product and was the deciding factor on which manufacturer to choose for the company's road building operations.

"Chris and I both were very impressed with the factory tours," said Acosta. "The Vögele plant really got our attention as the modernization and the entire manufacturing process demonstrated a major emphasis on quality. The plant management and its employees really demonstrated a best-in-class type of approach to the asphalt paving machines being built in their facility.

Duininck purchased a new Vögele SUPER 1700-3i, which is a tracked paver in the 8-ft. class. Conceived especially for the North American market, the tracked machine handles a wide variety of paving jobs. Due to its compact design, it is ideal for large commercial applications. The machine is equipped with ErgoPlus 3, the modern intuitive system for paver operation, providing maximum operating comfort and all-round visibility.

"We at Duininck are very excited about the new 1700 series paver and look forward to a continued relationship with Wirtgen and Hayden-Murphy for many years to come," said Acosta.

The Vögele SUPER 1700-3 paver was delivered and set up in just a day. It performed perfectly on site and easily did exactly what it was needed to do.

"Besides ease of use and maintenance, the paver also is extremely quiet. You can barely hear that it is even running," said Gary Duininck, foreman. "Hayden-Murphy has been great to work with. They supplied a service technician to show us how to operate the machine and make sure there was no issues. They are a great group of people to work with and we will be buying more machines from them in the future for sure."

"Hayden-Murphy hired a paver and roller specialist that has been instrumental in getting our customers familiar with the product and confident with all aspects of the machines," said Torgerson.

The project was completed in one day with asphalt being loaded directly into the paver.

"We have plenty of service techs that are very well-trained on all of our products, said Torgerson. "The combination of our sales staff, product specialists and service techs ultimately give our customers confidence that Hayden-Murphy can fully support the machines they represent. In the end, when our customers are winning paving awards with our product; its testament that we are doing things right."

Vögele, part of The Wirtgen Group, started in 1836 and is the largest producer of asphalt pavers in the world. According to its website, Vögele offers "an enormous product range of state-of-the-art pavers, screeds and material feeders. The range covers mini class pavers to highway class machines and a pave width from 1 ft. 8 in. to 59 ft. 1 in. We also provide solutions to give customers the edge in a tough, competitive environment and to promote their success."
