Richard Waddington has joined Hoffman International Inc., Piscataway, NJ, in the newly-created position of vice president, export for Africa. The appointment was announced by Joseph F. Watters, president.

Waddington has conducted numerous consulting and sales missions in Africa since 1987, primarily in Uganda. The first, a water drilling equipment maintenance program for the United Nations, was followed by management of a USAID/Ohio State University Ugandan agricultural research station rehabilitation. He later served as an equipment maintenance trainer-consultant to the U.S. Embassy in Uganda.

For six years, Waddington was general manager for Inter-Africa Transport Company, a machinery import, sales and leasing firm with yearly revenues of $8 million, also headquartered in Uganda. Later, as head of his own firm, L&R Export, he sold and shipped durable goods to Africa and Europe, and was responsible for procuring, delivering and installing grain elevators in Uganda in time for harvest use. He also served as regional export manager for Bukkehave Inc., and was responsible for sales and delivery of Chrysler and Ford vehicles to the United Nations for peacekeeping use in Africa and the Caribbean.

Before joining Hoffman Equipment Inc., Waddington served as international sales manager for Sargent International Inc., where he developed technical specifications for international tenders, and acted as training and inspection liaison between equipment manufacturers and foreign officials. He was instrumental in a USAID tender resulting in a $14.5-million equipment contract.

“We believe Richard Waddington is the ideal person to take advantage of the enormous opportunity we see for our company in exporting equipment to Africa,” Watters said in announcing the appointment. “Richard will play a significant role in expanding our export sales activities.”
