As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Gov. Scott Walker recently approved $3.2 million to improve 11.6 mi. of WIS 55 in Calumet County from U.S. 151 in the town of Brothertown, to WIS 114 in the town of Sherwood. The project is scheduled to finish in October. WIS 55 will remain open during construction.

Northeast Asphalt Inc. of Greenville, Wis., is the prime contractor.

Project Improvements

The project is needed to improve the condition of the existing roadway, which has severe deterioration with numerous types of cracking in the pavement surface. Work on WIS 55 includes:

  • Milling and overlaying the roadway pavement;
  • spot curb and gutter replacement at various intersection locations and in village of Stockbridge;
  • curb ramp improvements;
  • adjust beam guard at several locations;
  • new pavement marking;
  • new permanent signing;
  • centerline rumble strip; and
  • wider paved shoulders and shoulder rumble strips

Traffic Impacts
  • WIS 55 will remain open to traffic during construction. Traffic will be maintained using single lane closures, flagging operations and shoulder closures.
  • Parking will not be permitted on WIS 55 in the village of Stockbridge during paving and curb and gutter operations.
  • Spot sidewalk closures in Stockbridge will also occur when curb ramp work is taking place.
Project Benefits

Motorists will experience a smoother driving surface, and the roadway will require less maintenance. Safety also will be increased with new centerline rumble strips, signing and pavement markings.
