The town of Ossining, located in Westchester County, N.Y., has a population of more than 37,000 and contains two villages — the village of Ossining and the village of Briarcliff Manor.
The town encompasses approximately 16 sq. mi.
The town’s equipment fleet includes five dump trucks, one Elgin sweeper, one Vac-All, one New Holland tractor loader backhoe, and several mason trucks. The town just purchased a Tier IV Doosan DL200TC 2.6 cu. yd. (1.98 cu m) rubber-tired loader, which is powered by a 160 hp (119 kW) Doosan engine and weighs 26,830 lbs. (12,170 kg).
With the town’s previous loader nearing 25 years old, the town board decided to put out a bid for a new loader, and that bid was awarded to Westchester Tractor and Doosan.
"I have known [sales representative] George Risley and [Westchester Tractor President] John Apple for years and I am very comfortable doing business with them," said Highway Superintendent Michael G. O’Connor. "They have never given us any high pressure tactics and they have done an excellent job supporting the equipment that they have sold to us in the past. When I first looked at the Doosan DL200TC I was very impressed with what I saw. The machine is assembled with heavy grade steel, good solid welds and has a nice finish to it. We are confident that the Doosan is giving our taxpayers the best value for their money.
"We also opted to have the loader equipped with a tool carrier. This tool carrier gives the machine a lot of added flexibility like easily handling culvert pipe; and down the road we can add attachments to the loader such as a broom or a grapple. Our operators have been absolutely thrilled with the machine. It has great power and a very comfortable ride control system."
