North American construction equipment distributors have elected Paul W. Campbell of Wheeler Machinery Co. to the position of 2008 chairman of the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED).

Campbell was installed to the association's highest volunteer position during AED's 89th annual meeting in Chicago, Jan. 10 to 12. Representatives from the industry's leading distributors, manufacturers and service firms from the United States, Canada and abroad attended the AED convention.

Campbell is the executive vice president of Wheeler Machinery, a Caterpillar dealership in Salt Lake City. He began working for a division of the company, ICM Equipment, in 1988 as a marketing professional. In the early 1990s, he served as both a lift truck sales representative and then a lift truck sales manager for ICM, until it was purchased by H&E Equipment Services.

In 1997, Campbell became a Cat Rental store manager and then in 2000 moved up the ranks to vice president of construction sales. He was named vice president of sales in 2002, and in 2006 he became executive vice president.

AED has nearly always been a part of Campbell's professional life. He began attending AED meetings with his father Lyle Campbell shortly after entering the business.

Campbell has been a member of AED's Government Affairs committee since 1997 and has served on the association's board of directors since 2005. He also has worked on AED's Future Leaders Task Force. He is an active member of AED of Utah, and last year served as the organization's president.
