In honor of the Mustang skid steer, which turned 40 this year, Mustang has given away a new 2054 skid steer.

The winners, Ann and Gary Paulman of DeForest, WI, entered the giveaway contest at the ConEx tradeshow in West Allis, WI, where Mustang’s Waukesha, WI, dealer, Tractor Loader Sales, was exhibiting. The 2054 will load seed, clean yards and throw snow on her family’s dairy, Harvest View Farms.

“We’ve been using Mustangs on the dairy since I was little,” said Ann Paulman. “In fact, I learned to drive a skid steer on a Mustang 345.”

World of Concrete attendees had the first shot at winning the Mustang 2054, as the company began collecting entries in its booth at the Las Vegas tradeshow, Jan. 18 to 21, 2005. Entries also were gathered throughout the year at other U.S. tradeshow events and dealer locations in the United States and Canada.

“Mustang’s roots actually date back to 1865,” said Doug Snorek, Mustang marketing manager. “But it was the development of the skid steer in 1965 that started Mustang down the path to becoming a favorite among compact equipment operators.”

The Mustang 2054 has an ergonomic design with many of the “creature comforts” that contractors have come to appreciate in compact equipment. With a 1,650-lb. SAE-rated operating load, the 2054 has 49 hp and 5,000-lbs. bucket breakout force. The Mustang Multi-Tach mounting system on the 2054 accepts most two-pin attachments on the market today.

In addition to nine skid steers, the Mustang product portfolio currently consists of 10 compact excavators, including a new line of zero- and short-tail models; three track loaders; and six telehandlers, including two newly redesigned units with 42 and 44 ft. lift heights. The company also is introducing four upgraded all-wheel steer loaders.
