Wolverine Tractor & Equipment Company, Southfield (Detroit), MI, has purchased the assets of Contractors Machinery Company Inc., Grand Rapids, MI –– a Volvo Construction Equipment dealer –– and has been appointed the exclusive authorized dealer for Volvo CE for the state of Michigan.

The new dealer will operate from its current sales and service branches located in Detroit, Richmond, Brighton, Lansing, Traverse City and the former Contractors Machinery location in Grand Rapids –– all located in Michigan.

Dave Sinay has joined the newly merged companies to lead integration and development of Volvo Construction Equipment lines. A former executive vice president of Michigan CAT, Sinay joins Bob McNutt, Wayne Simon and Ric Simon on the on the companies’ management team.

With combined industry involvement and experience of more than 120 years, the group is optimistic and eager to chart its course for the future.

Ric Simon, president of Wolverine Tractor & Equipment Company, said he is enthusiastic about the merger of Wolverine with Contractors Machinery and feels that the timing of the move and the combination of product lines will position the companies to maximize their success in the Michigan construction market.

In expanding its customer base, the move also places Wolverine back in the Grand Rapids market after a short hiatus. The staff looks forward to working once again with some of its long-time customers, said Simon.

While the two companies come together, they plan to maintain two separate sales forces in order to take advantage of the knowledge and strengths of both teams.

With the exception of a few retirements, Wolverine has brought its entire product support staff in a move that dramatically increases their service capabilities.

Wolverine has been in operation for more than 50 years and is currently in its third generation of ownership. The company is a full service dealer for Case, Cummins, Deutz, Esco, Gomaco, Bomag, Isuzu, Kawasaki, Link-Belt, Rammer, Terex and Takeuchi.

“We are delighted with Wolverine’s acquisition of the Contractors Machinery business and its new association with our company as a Volvo CE dealer,” said Dennis R. Slagle, president and CEO of Volvo Construction Equipment North America Inc., Asheville, NC. “The Wolverine management and organization will add value and offer more distribution outlets for our Michigan customers. We look forward to working with them as they strengthen their position with Volvo in the market.”
