Yancey Bros. Co., based in Austell, Ga., recently named Larry Armstrong as its Used Equipment Manager.

Armstrong brings approximately 30 years of experience in the equipment industry to his new position.

Early in his career, Armstrong joined Construction Equipment Sales, the South Carolina John Deere industrial dealer, where he spent six years in an office manager’s position. He then worked for Blanchard Machinery, holding a variety of positions. After starting in the company’s management-training program, he worked as an internal auditor for seven years. Following that, he worked in the heavy equipment division’s sales department where he managed the heavy division rental fleet and became sales operations manager; he then moved to the rental service division as asset manager. In all, Armstrong spent 20 years with Blanchard.

“Starting out with Blanchard as an internal auditor was a great way to learn every aspect of the equipment business and have exposure to all divisions: parts, service, sales and rentals,” he said.

In 2008, Armstrong joined Eagle West Equipment, a crane distribution company based in Abbottsford, British Columbia, and was relocated to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he worked as the U.S. region manager. In this position, he also was responsible for global sales, as well as providing network set up, development and support.

Armstrong is enthusiastic about his new position with Yancey Bros. Co.

“Yancey has a great reputation,” he said. “As the country’s oldest Caterpillar dealer, we are a well established organization with great people. For me, it’s really nice to get back to the familiar southern climate. Working in neighboring South Carolina for 20 years, I had done business with the folks at Yancey and know them well and feel very good about my decision to be a part of this team.”

Armstrong’s goal is straight-forward.

“Continue to expand on an already solid used equipment business,” he said. “The strong foundation at Yancey has already been built and established by many talented people before I came here. My focus is squarely on growth, especially in territory share of the market and selling to the end user instead of resellers and auction houses.”

Armstrong feels a true distinct advantage in the marketplace as a Caterpillar dealer representative.

“Buying used Caterpillar equipment from Yancey provides our customer with a machine that has gone through a rigorous inspection process, has the product support backing of the entire authorized Cat dealer network, in many cases has a warranty available, and has the availability for financing through Cat Financial,” he said.
