On July 22, Thompson Machinery hosted a customer appreciation day and open house in Greenwood, MS. The event is part of the company’s yearlong 60th anniversary celebration.

More than 200 principals of numerous Delta-area businesses, agri-businesses and government agencies were in attendance as well as key Thompson staff members, including West region manager Kenny Dill, Memphis, TN, and CEO DeWitt Thompson IV and company President DeWitt Thompson V, both of the Nashville, TN, area.

Thompson serves as the region’s exclusive distributor of Caterpillar construction and forestry equipment, Challenger agricultural equipment, Cat truck and marine engines, and Cat power generation equipment. Thompson Machinery offers complete sales, rental and leasing options as well as full field and shop service capabilities.

Thompson’s founders started the company in 1944 to serve Middle Tennessee. In 1987, they purchased Taylor Machinery Company Inc. Taylor’s dealership network included 17 North Mississippi counties and all of West Tennessee. Soon after, Thompson Machinery purchased the Stribling-Clements Caterpillar dealerships, adding to its territory another 25 counties in Mississippi.

The company, with sales territories in both Tennessee and Mississippi, established Thompson Machinery Commerce Corporation with two divisions: Thompson Machinery and Thompson Power.

The current Greenwood facility opened in 2000 at the Highway 82 location, which the company has occupied since the early 1950s.

“…Our company network allows us to provide the best in equipment offerings, service and customer support,” said Greenwood branch manager Hank Williams. “We look forward to our continued relationship with [our customers].”
