Ziegler Cat has put renewed focus on its used equipment efforts by opening a new facility solely for that purpose in Shakopee, MN.

The new facility occupies the former location of General Tractor, Ziegler’s used parts division, at 7950 State Highway 101. General Tractor has become part of the used equipment division, according to Pete Carson, advertising and promotion of Ziegler Cat.

This facility provides a “more centralized location for customers,” said Carson. Added Charlie Baer, division manager, the location is a “one-source stop for used equipment with sales, parts and service.

“At the main facility, we always have a large number of machines in the yard, making it unclear to customers what was for sale, rental or in for repair. Now they know that all machines in the yard are for sale. Everything in line is ready to go,” he explained.

The new facility features a 5,000-sq.-ft. full parts warehouse, five service bays, and a large cold storage building.

Ziegler Cat’s service department is a full-service operation, rebuilds components, repairs and services machines, and does whatever is necessary to achieve customer satisfaction.

The sales team is “a dedicated group of people who can give customers the answers they need. We have four people dedicated to sales plus our parts people,” to fulfill customer needs.

This operation also poses something unique from a traditional Caterpillar dealership by giving the Used Equipment Division total control of all aspects of its used machinery.

“What makes this used facility unique is the fact that it is an independent division with total responsibility for sales, parts and service. Most [dealerships] only have responsibility for sales, and other departments report elsewhere,” said Baer.

He added that “the move shows the owners’ commitment to the used equipment business. To dedicate an entire building, personnel and facilities to used equipment should prove to our customers our commitment to their needs and the industry.”
