Ziegler, Minnesota’s Caterpillar equipment and power systems dealership, has just opened a new 65,000 sq. ft. service and sales facility on an 80-acre site in the northeast metro community of Columbus.

Home to 35 employees, this facility, the newest of Ziegler’s 19 facilities, features 14 service bays, specialized machining and hydraulic cylinder/hose shops, a 14,000 line item parts warehouse and a complete Cat rental store.

The complex provides complete sales, rental, parts and service support for an extensive line of equipment and supplies for contractors, landscapers, nurseries, and truckers. An advanced technology machining shop means OEM-caliber hydraulic cylinder rebuilds can be done for any brand of equipment.

The plant’s hydraulic hose assembly capabilities are equally extensive. The full service facility handles anything to do with Caterpillar heavy equipment, compact construction equipment, truck engines and generator sets.

Commenting on the new Columbus facility, Ziegler President William Hoeft said, “Our customer base has grown far beyond what it was even five years ago, and a northeast metro facility has been discussed for a long time. The underlying technologies for all phases of our businesses are extremely sophisticated. Building this new complex from the ground up, enables us to integrate all of our services into an efficient operation, using the most advanced equipment and systems available.”

Founded in 1914, Ziegler is headquartered in Bloomington, Minn., and currently employs more than 1,300 people in 19 locations throughout Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. The company serves diverse markets, including highway, heavy and light construction, building construction and trades, landscaping, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, timber, government, transportation and power generation.

Columbus’ mayor, Mel Mettler, said he sees a bright future for the facility. “The Ziegler people have put a tremendous amount of work into this project. They’ve been a first-class operation every step of the way. Considering the growth rate of this part of the metro area, I’m confident the facility will be a source of pride, jobs, and excellent customer service for decades to come.”
